IlluminOss ABL Medical: Innovating Anti-Microbial Blue Light Fiber Technology

ABL Medical, a subsidiary of IlluminOss Medical, is developing an anti-microbial blue light fiber technology that could be used within medical devices such as catheters and endotracheal tubes. Blue light has been shown to have antimicrobial effects, inactivating pathogens by overproducing unstable oxygen compounds that break apart cell building blocks. The ABL system utilizes a patented light source and optical delivery system to deliver specific frequencies of blue light via a single fiber. The technology has the potential to safely deliver blue light to anatomical locations where this treatment was previously not possible. ABL’s fiber-optic technology has been presented at multiple conferences in 2023. The next step is to investigate the clinical safety and effectiveness of the technology to obtain regulatory approval for commercial access.
